MONTREAL FASHION WEEK

I'm finally finished my dress for the 2009 Télio Design Competition! What do you think?

We were allowed to choose 6m of our choice from 18 Télio fashion fabrics. Our design had to incorporate one or more of the themes earth, air, water, and/or fire. Out of 116 applicants, I'm thrilled to be one of the 25 finalists from across Canada who gets to show their garment in the Télio show during Montreal Fashion Week (the cash prizes arent too shabby either)!
I bought this 1960s vintage floral dress from Ragpickers last Saturday. I'm going to reconstruct it for an outfit to wear to fashion week; make it shorter and give it a bell or balloon hem. I'd like to do some adjustments to the bodice (make it more fitted) and the sleeves (which may be difficult because they are kimono-style).
I want to give it a Balenciga Spring 2008 feel. I have some fierce black cut-out shield boots I'm gonna rock with it too. I can't wait; 23 days 'till MFW and my first show ever!

  1. WOW what a great vintage find! I am sure you can do wonders with that. I also absolutely LOVE your dress, those flowers add just the right amount of detail and color to the dress.

  2. Congrats! That's so exciting. I wish I could go to Montreal Fashion Week.. I've only been to Toronto's this past October, and am hoping to volunteer backstage this spring.

If you recreate that floral dress to channel Balenciaga and show it at FW, don't you think you'd get a lot of hate from the judges like Kenley did on Project Runway for channling McQueen (or was it Gaultier) and Balenciaga?

Otherwise, I think it'd make a great personal outfit!

  8. 5'8 is the perrrrfect height to wear heels regularly though! i'm 5'10 and i look like a giant when i wear 3.5 or 4 inch heels which is the only thing i buy because i hate kitten heels.

and ill post photos once i get a working camera.. i just broke mine! next paycheck maybe haha
but i always say that and then end up buying more clothes or books

  10. I really like the vintage find...

Your dress is lovely, but there's something about the flowers I feel should be fixed. As it stands, they seems too tacked on' like a craft project at michaels. I don't mean this as a harsh criticism, I mean that they should look more natural? Not flat, but something.
